Interlake Riding Area

Location:

DNR has closed Spurgeon
It is expected to open around 2007.

Interlake is located in Warrick County in Southwest IN about 5 miles north of the Lynnville exit on I64, and about 10 miles east of Evansville on county road 1200 N. The Lynnville riding area that most members talk about is actually what locals call the Spurgeon riding area. There used to be a riding area next to the interstate (It was just south of I-64) at Lynnville, but it was closed.

From Louisville take I64 west. At the Lynnville/Boonville exit (exit 39) turn north on Hwy 61 towards the shell station and proceed through the town of Lynnville. Follow Hwy 61 for 4 or 5 miles. You will go through four or five 90 degree turns, until you come to gravel road on the right which is CR 1200 S. CR 1200 is about 1/2 mile before the town of Spurgeon. You will have to be looking for CR 1200 because there's a big cedar tree that blocks the sign until you're almost on top of it. If you come to the town of Spurgeon you've gone just a little too far.

Turn east (right) on CR 1200. You will cross a gravel road after 1/2 mile. You will go for about another 2 miles and you will come to a place where an old coal hauling road crosses CR 1200. At the intersection of CR 1200 and this old coal hauling road turn right and there is a parking area at the top of the hill. The left(north) side of the road is private property and no riding is allowed. Remember, registration numbers are required.

Approximate Drive Time from Corydon, Indiana:

1hr. 15min.

Hours:

Interlake is currently closed while the State of Indiana does some reclaimation work and prepares the land to be more like the Redbird State Riding Area.

Fees:

The fees will be determined by the State of Indiana when Interlake reopens.

Trail / Park Size:

Estimated Acreage: 5600
Estimated Trail Miles: Over 50

Comments:

The acreage north of CR 1200 is private property and no riding is allowed.. The area consists of 5600 acres. It is all old coal mine ground. The riding area is run by the state, so if you ride at Spurgeon or any county roads, you need to have your quad registered with the state. They DO check this.

The terrain varies from tight woods trails to open areas, as well as haul roads and plenty of mud. The place has hills, mud, jumps, easy trails, and difficult trails, lots of water or no water. All trails can't be ridden in one day. It gets very muddy when it rains though.

Rider Access:

Camping: Yes
Ownership: State of Indiana
Public Access Allowed: This riding area is open to the Public

Park Rules:

  • You must have your ATV registered, DNR does check, if you ride on the DNR side!
  • There are no designated camping areas. If camping is allowed, it would be primitive. The DNR could probably answer that question best.
