Trail / Park Size:

Estimated Trail Miles: 400

Comments:

The trails are open in four areas: The Dingus Rum Trail is open with over 100 miles near Logan. The Browning Fork Trail runs between Man and Gilbert with over 100 miles of trail. The Buffalo Mountain Trail has aproximately 65 miles open between Williamson and Matewan. And the newest system, Little Coal River, is located in Boone County just off 119, near the Danville/Madison area.

Southern West Virginia mountains are naturally steep and rocky. Difficulty ratings on a trail system are always set in relation to the other trails in the same system. The difficulty level for trails in other areas are different than the ones used by Hatfield-McCoy based on the natural topography. A Bureau of Land Management consultant guides Hatfield-McCoy on their rating system. The Hatfield-McCoy message board provides information about the trails from riders who have rode there and experienced the trails.

The Hatfield-McCoy trail system has an excellent website with all types of information. You can find directions, maps, places to stay and camp, rules and regulations, park hours, places to eat and fuel up and more. I encourage you to visit their site before you make the trip.
